PORTFOLIO INSTRUCTIONS
Applicants are required to submit a portfolio with 5-10 images of their work along with their applications. Apprentices are given a cash stipend of approximately $250 per session.

The portfolio can be images of work you’ve done independently or for an art course. We are looking to get an idea of your skill level in various mediums, your creativity, your eye for design, etc.

Please submit your portfolio electronically to info@artstart.us.
-
One image per page please.
-
Images should be full color.
-
For each image, please list: the title, the medium used, and the date completed. If it was created for a course, please include the course title.
-
Prioritize showcasing work that you are proud of, but also try to include images of artwork in more than one medium. This will show us your range of skills and may qualify you for more projects we are working on!
Each session we have different commissions lined up for apprentices to work on, and we try to select apprentices whose interests and skill levels fit well with these jobs.
Portfolios will be juried by the Creative Director and Lead Artists. Each session, we accept 5-7 apprentices.
LOGISTICS TO KEEP IN MIND

SESSIONS ARE 4-5 WEEKS LONG. SCHEDULED APPROXIMATELY EVERY OTHER MONTH. ALL SUBJECT TO CHANGE DUE TO COVID-19 SCHOOL SCHEDULES

Please email or call to inquire about the next confirmed session’s dates.

Artstart is located at 317 Sutton Place, off Standish Rd., off the Todd Rd. Exit from Highway 101.
Currently, we are holding one-on-one apprenticeship sessions every other month. During these sessions, each apprentice is assigned to a lead artist and will work with them to complete an assigned job. Jobs are private and public commissions secured by Artstart, with a client and deadline.
During the school year, sessions are Tues/Weds/Thurs, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, each week.
For our summer program in July, session is Tues/Weds/Thurs, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. each week.
Apprentices are expected to treat this like a job. You are expected to be on time and ready to go each day at the start time. Apprentices are given a cash stipend of approximately $250 per session.
During the school year, there is an option to attend from 4 pm to 6 pm and do a “half” apprenticeship if your school schedule does not allow for the full afternoon schedule.

If you know you have to miss a day for an important reason, please tell your lead artist ahead of time so they can plan on your absence that day. You will also need to make up the days you miss; otherwise your pay will be prorated.
