(Artstart) DAN TAYLOR THE PRESS DEMOCRAT August 11, 2020 Adults of all ages may recall warm memories of their high school years, but for today’s young people, the cold world of the coronavirus pandemic and the isolation it’s caused

Hope, Meaning, Love
art by Sophia In the art piece that I made, I tried to represent what COVID has taken away from people and myself included. As you can tell there is a hand reached but is seeming to struggle, as a rope/string is pulling it down where there are many representatives of COVID, (The little green guys). Above are the things that the "hand" is being pulled away from by this virus such as jobs, safety, happiness, hope, meaning, sleep, love, family, lives, potential, friendships, fut

In your Dreams
art by Seelah Right now, a lot of us are dreaming. Maybe it’s a simple dream, like being able to sit down at your favorite Italian restaurant again, or maybe it’s a major dream, like opening your own tech company in Silicon Valley. Maybe you’re just dreaming of getting your job back and feeding your family. Unfortunately, they’re all unattainable right now. We’re dreaming, but we’re dreaming sadly; we’re dreaming in black and white. But these evasive, hazy tendrils of hope a

Staying Positive
Art by Satleen “These kids are escaping shelter in place by flying away on a mask turned flying carpet. They are seeking light from this unprecedented darkness brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. They are flying towards healing, hope, and a normal social life. They are staying positive as they won’t let COVID-19 get them down.“

Mixed Emotions
art by Diego I used acrylic paints and tried to paint my feelings about coronavirus. The first painting is called "Mixed Emotions" and shows my feelings about sheltering in place and how the world feels so different. The second painting is called "Tree of Emotions" it shows all the emotions going up through me and out dripping through the branches. Each color is an emotion. The tree is the tree that is in my backyard which is my home.

Where you find Hope
Art by Dashall -How do you see the world and your place in it? I drew the boxes with one person in it because that is how I see my living situation right now, everybody in their houses not really doing anything. -Where do you find hope, strength, and compassion? I have really been doing those things through games. I have been playing a lot with my friends and it kinda gives you hope that things will go back to normal. That is why I put the people in PCs.

Unity
art by Ellie “Here is my drawing description: This drawing represents the need for all people to come together to support black people in their fight for equality and freedom from oppression. Before drawing this image, I wanted to find a way to represent the beauty of connection and support for those who are suffering and facing discrimination because of who they are. I chose to draw flower and vines coming off of the hands because from the unity between all people, new relat

Why are they out of their Bubbles?
art by Calla Reinecke “During the pandemic so far everyone has been stuck inside their homes, but the way I see if it's almost like everyone is stuck inside their own bubbles. In my drawing the bubbles represent our homes and how we are stuck in them all the time. Another reason the bubbles remind me of peoples homes is because slowly they will start to drift apart from each other acting like relationships becoming more distant over time because of being able to see one anoth

We are in this together
art by Amrie “Although we are apart we are helping our environment If we stay home we help to keep ourselves and others safe... This is hard on everyone and we will get through this together. The three people standing around the earth show that we are all in this together even while we are apart. Different stores are closing or do curbside pick along with only take out or pick up to help stop the spread of this virus. We are part and are all in this together.”

Is this the new normal?
art by Zohar Sebastopol Ca. “This piece for me is a depiction of my fear for humankind; for the freedom that is being taken away from us in the name of “saving lives''; and mostly for the fear of the world that my little brother Josiah is going to grow up in. One where, as a 1-year-old, he asks for a mask, and cries when it's taken off. A world where he can't go out to play with other kids of his age, and a world where people are afraid of living because they don't want to di

But we are not here just to take up space, we must be here for some greater purpose.
My piece was inspired greatly by how quarantine is affecting me mentally, and is less about how I feel about the world right now. I have never experienced this much isolation in my life, even during summer break. I have been alone with myself for months, and this has been both a beautiful and scary experience to learn about myself. I have always been a spiritual seeker, but during SIP, my desire for spiritual knowledge has increased a lot more. I could not focus on this
